Pêcheries Charlevoix is a family-run fishery in Saint-Irénée that preserves one of Quebec’s oldest coastal traditions: weir fishing (pêche à fascine). Using fixed nets set with the tides, they harvest species like capelin and herring through selective, low-impact methods that respect marine ecosystems and reflect generations of local knowledge. Their commitment to sustainable, artisanal fishing keeps this ancestral practice alive while promoting ocean stewardship. Drawn by their deep connection to the sea and their mindful approach, I set out to photograph their work; to capture the rhythm of their days, the beauty of their craft, and the harmony between people and the tide.
